Today I logged into my MelodySoup.org website and was SHOCKED to realize that the last time I wrote a blog post was way back in 2023! At that time I announced out loud that I was writing a book. I was writing a book…. , well I still am writing a book, but doing so while teaching music full time and writing loads of other things means that progress is slow.
I don’t know if I have the ability to write in any sort of disciplined way for this blog, but I do know that I enjoy writing, especially writing in and around the topic of music education. So for now, a couple of life updates will have to get me started… Hopefully, I will regain a bit of routine that will revitalize this blog because I’ve missed it.
Since my last blog post, I have completed my Orff-Schulwerk certification. Doing so has been such a blessing to my teaching and fits in really well with the knowledge I have from the Richards Institute of Education and Research (ETM).
I have also been given the opportunity to mentor and support new music teachers in my district, which I LOVE! AND, this next year I will begin my 28th year of teaching! Who would have guessed that this girl who legitimately never intended to use the her music education degree would have actually learned to love the job that she was convinced she wouldn’t like?
The other thing that I have found that brings me joy is to write stories for children. I’ve got several cooking on the back burner of my mind at all times and sometimes they even make appearances in my teaching. Perhaps in the days to come I will develop a few of the stories and share them here in this blog.
In any case, there has been a great deal of life lived and while many things have changed, most things, the essential things, have stayed the same.
